"Draenei"
A New Race for the
Alliance has arrived! by the Hidden Merchant
Twenty-five thousand
or so years ago, the Eredar race appeared on the face of the world
named Argus.
Extremely
intelligent and possessing a strong natural affinity for magic in
almost every form they developed an amazing culture and
society.
During the Burning
Crusade to eliminate all forms of life from the cosmos Sargeras the
Destroyer of Worlds noticed the Eredar and thinking that they would
be the perfect leaders to run his demonic army contacted their
three most influential leaders. Kil'jaeden, Archimonde and Velen
were offered unimagineable knowledge and power for the Eredar if
they would swear their loyalty to Sargeras. The leaders decided to
consider Sargeras's tempting offer.
One of the Eridar
named Velen had a vision of the future that terrified him and
filled him with dread. Velen future sight showed him the
co-joined Legion in all its terrible might and witnessed the
massive destruction it would wreak upon all of
creation.
Sargeras had told
them the truth, but only a portion of it. It was true that the
Eredar who joined the Dark Titan would gain enormous power and
knowledge. However, the Eredar would also be transformed into
demons themselves.
He quickly tried to warn Kil'jaeden and
Archimonde, but to no avail. They dismissed his concerns, for they
had been enticed by Sargeras' promises and gave no consideration to
the concequences. Thus, after giving The Demon lord Sargeras their
allegiance they were utterly changed into beings of infinate
evil.
Now with the assimilation of the Eredar the vast
power Sargeras commanded made direct opposition completely
unthinkable.
In his despair Velen, prayed for an answer to
save the remaining Eredar that had refused to join Sargeras. Then
when all was almost lost his prayers were answered. A being came to
Velen and explained that it was a member of the Naaru, a race of
sentient beings made of pure energy bent on stopping the Burning
Crusade. The Naaru offered to take Velen and any other like-minded
Eredar to safety.
With renewed hope Velen swept up the renegade
Eredar for a flight to safety. Running and barely escaping from the
Burning Horde with just seconds to spare. It was during this exodus
from their home world of Argus that the Eredar began calling
themselves the Draenei which in their language means “Exiled
Ones”
Furious with Velen's betrayal, the newly made
demon Kil'jaeden vowed to hunt Velen and the rest of the Draenei to
the ends of the universe. Thus the Burning Legion has been chasing
the Draenei for many thousands of years.
In their quest to find a safe harbor the Draenei
have visited many worlds and explored much of the known universe.
Still the Legion they knew the legion would follow nor would they
give up their pursuit.
The Naaru explained to Valen and the other
Draenei that there were other forces in the cosmos that could and
would eventually stand against the Burning Legion but the time was
not yet right so in the meanwhile the Naaru race in their wisdom,
blessed the Draenei by teaching them Light-given knowledge and
power.
Telling them that one day the Naaru would forge
all of these forces into an unstoppable army of the Light deeply
affected the Draenei who then vowed to honor the Light and uphold
the Naaru's altruistic ideals.
Velen and his Draenei finally settled upon a
remote and peaceful world that seemed an ideal refuge. Naming it
Draenor, or "Exiles' Refuge" they quietly rebuilt their society.
Ever wary of being discovered again by Kil'jaeden's forces, Velen
and his mystics kept their magics hidden for
generations.
In due course the Draenei met the shamanistic Orc
clans that lived in the tranquil southern grasslands of Nagrand and
became friends. However, even though they respected each others
race and culture they kept mostly to themselves except for engaging
in a small amounts of trade.
Everyone knew it was inevitable that Kil'jaeden
would discover their secret refuge on Draenor in spite of their
caution, what they didn't expect was the plan Kil'jaeden would
devise to subvert the orcs . Quietly Kil'jaeden sought out
information on the new world and its inhabitants. Intrigued by the
mighty orc race he studied them until a plan unfolded in his mind.
He had figured out how to mold the Orcs into the instrument of his
wrath against the Draenei. It was merely a matter of time and
properly applied pressure.
Kil'jaeden started his plan for re-molding the
Orcs by first corrupting the elderly shaman Ner'zhul, followed by
his apprentice, Gul'dan. The Orc clans then refocused and dedicated
themselves to the art of war even the wisest shaman was now
learning warlock magics and abandoning the teachings they had once
revered. Once his plan of corruption on the Orcs was complete
Kil'jaeden joined them together forming a single minded and
murderous Horde. War was now the mainstay of the Orcs since they
had unknowingly been manipulated from a state of wary acceptance
into blind rage and bloodlust.
Kil'jaeden then unleashed his new Orc army on the
Draenei. The Draenei stood their ground now being quite powerful
due to their newly given powers of Light, but the demon-maddened
Horde was mightier still. Lasting nearly eight years killed the war
killed over eighty percent of the Draenei race and sent the rest
fleeing for safety to the remote corners of the world.
Those Draenei who had
fought the Horde, found themselves affected by the dark energies
wielded so freely by the orc warlocks. These Draenei started
mutating into lower, less intellegent life forms, resulting in a
series of subspecies. The Broken and the Lost Ones are two of the
genetic strains caused by the residual dark force wielded by the
Orc Shamen. Most of these former Draenei have lost their grip on
reality and gone into the depths of insanity.
So now we have another
problem to overcome and a new race to save, are we up to
it? |
