In the course of the new Blizzard upgrades
you will now find a new race in the Horde region.
Blood Elves:
According to legend they are the remnants of a
once proud and powerful people. A few thousand years have
passed since the Exiled high borne Elves landed on the shores of
Lordaeron, where they shortly founded the kingdom of
Quel'Thalas.
The “High Elves” as their egos self proclaimed
them, created a vast fountain of magical energy in the heart of
their land which they named the Sunwell. They became completely
dependent on their use of magical energy even though they knew of
the unstable nature of the Sunwell even though they had learned
hard lessons in ages past what tragedy's could present themselves.
Even being used in the smallest scales could become completely
unmanageable. They continued using the Sunwell to the point it
became their greatest weakness.
When the vile Prince Arthas invaded Quel'Thalas
during the Third War his army of the undead almost completely
destroyed the High elves as a race. They took almost 90 % of the
High Elf population and spilled their blood over the ground of the
once proud and beautiful kingdom of Quel'Thalas.
Then to add insult to injury Prince Arthas used
the Sunwell's energy to resurrect Kel'thuzad - a powerful undead
Lich which ended up contaminating and fouling the Sunwell's
mystical waters.
A small group of elven survivors, realizing now
that they had been cut off from the Sunwell the magical source of
their arcane power, they grew increasingly volatile and desperate
to survive.
It is said that
in the darkest hour of despair that, will be when the brightest
light shall rise to meet the darkness, and so it was that in the
midst of the elves' darkest hour came:Kael'thas
Sunstrider.
He was the last
of Quel'Thalas' royal bloodline. Kael, as he was commonly known,
realised that the remaining people would be unable to survive
without the powerful nourishing magics that once empowered them. He
knew what he had to do to save his people.
In honor of their
fallen countrymen he renamed his people “Blood Elves” and began
teaching them to tap into the magic powers surrounding them in
nature without having to build fountains. Even to the point of
teaching them how to tap into the demonic energies available to
quench their thirst for magical power.
Kael'thas
ventured out in search of a new destiny for his people, his journey
ending in the remote world of Outland where he meets the
Fallen Night Elf, Illidan. Once under Illidan's tutelage, Kael
and his remaining Blood Elves have regained much of their former
power but their former glory is still absent.
Unfortunately,
embracing demonic energies has a terrible effect on how other races
view the Blood Elves which, resulted in them being
shunned by their former friends and comrades in the
Alliance.
Now the remaining
Blood Elves on Azeroth must look desperately to the Horde for aid
in reaching Outland, where they can re-unite with Kael'thas their
king and achieve the golden destiny he promised them.
This brings us to
the beginning of new dangers, high adventures and new powers to
find and behold.
